Improving human security is the focal task of peace building
Peace building is an intervention that is designed to prevent the start or resumption of violent conflict by creating a sustainable peace. Peace building activities address the root causes or potential causes of violence, create a societal expectation for peaceful conflict resolution and stabilize society politically and socioeconomically. At Spirit, we conduct activities that create an environment supportive of self-sustaining, durable peace; reconcile opponents; prevent conflict from restarting; integrate civil society; create rule of law mechanisms; and address underlying structural and societal issues. Although Peace Building has remained a widely vague concept without clear guide lines to define it, it is agreed that improving human security is the focal task of peace building. Accordingly, peace building includes a large scope of efforts by various and diverse actors in governments and civil societies at the community, national and international levels to address the root causes of violence and ensure civilians have freedom from fear and freedom from humiliation before, during and after any violent conflict.
